Exploding Hot Water Heater Destroys Property

Explosion at a Home in Mifflinburg PA, Monday, October 22, 4:18 p.m. A water heater is to blame for an explosion that destroyed an apartment house Sunday in Union County PA. The explosion happened around 6 a.m. Sunday morning in a downstairs apartment at 424/426 Market Street in Mifflinburg PA. Officials believe a pressure valve on one of the water heaters broke, causing pressure to build in the tank, and then explode. One woman was in the apartment at the time, but neither she nor the woman who lives on the second floor were hurt. Damage is estimated at about $83,000. [Editor's Note: House recently sold for $79,500]
